Accentsdecorating with organic treasures

Now who doesn’t love a good show? In the garden, the stand-out performers – those plants that shout ‘Look at me!’ – are called accents.

Accent plants can be so interesting that just one will attract attention. They might have unusual or striking, year-round architectural structure and colour or a habit that acts like an exclamation mark in the landscape.

Accents might look good singled out or planted in multiples, planted in a pot or against a coloured or interesting backdrop, but whatever you choose, your star players in the garden should create interest, intrigue and draw focus.

Some of my favourite accent plants are:

Acacia cognata 'Limelight' LIMELIGHT BOWER WATTLE
Beschorneria yuccoides MEXICAN LILY
Cordyline 'Red Sensation' RED SENSATION CORDYLINE
Fortunella japonica 'Marumi' ROUND CUMQUAT
Heliconia  hybrids & cvs HELICONIA
Licula grandis RUFFLED FAN PALM
Yucca elaphantipes GIANT YUCCA
