In 2009, competitive drama and great design take centre stage in HGTV Showdown, hosted by Jamie Durie!

A new battle for design supremacy rocked HGTV (Home and Garden Television) when the (US) network premiered the second round of its popular design competition, HGTV Showdown. Featuring the network’s top talent, the special four-episode series, which premiered Sunday February 8th 2009 at 9pm ET/PT, offered viewers ringside seats as HGTV’s fiercest designers and builders teamed up to devise and execute a winning design plan for a lucky homeowner. Each week, the participating homeowner received $10,000 to re-create the design at home.
First, HGTV created two replicas of the homeowner’s design challenged space – everything from the peeling paint to outdated furniture and threadbare carpeting. Next, two elite design teams, each comprising of one designer and a builder or landscaping expert, huddled to create and execute their recommended design vision.
Using the homeowner’s specific criteria for the space, such as eco-friendly or low maintenance materials, or a particular design style, both teams raced to complete a knockout design. When time ran out, not only did the homeowner judge the results and declare a winner, but they also had the benefit of seeing two potential design options for their space.
Another round of HGTV Showdown is planned for 2009.
