The story
Josh and Kate Clutterbuck
planned an English style garden in their Melbourne backyard. But the
premature arrival of their twins, Jimmy and Evie, meant the garden had
been put on the backburner.
Thankfully,
both twins were able to leave the hospital and came home in May 2008.
They started getting stronger and putting on weight – but Mum and Dad
weren’t getting much sleep and the garden definitely needed some
attention!
To
find inspiration to complete their family-friendly English garden,
Jamie travelled to England where he discovered ideas behind every wall.
Secret gardens, arbours and colourful flower pots are just a few of the
ideas Jamie used to turn the Clutterbuck’s sandpit into a pretty
English outdoor room. You can find out more about this amazing garden

British chef Tom Kime has cooked for everybody from Jamie Oliver to
Mick Jagger. He updated a traditional English fish pie for this episode
of The Outdoor Room.

We
still can’t believe what we see when we look out at our back garden! It
makes us so happy. Thank you so much to Jamie, Jody and the crew for
transforming our weed museum into a stunning re-creation of a
traditional secluded English garden. The floral blooms are all coming
out now that the weather has warmed up again and the bees are getting
busy on the lavender and convolvulus.
You
have inspired us to become avid gardeners, and just this week we
finished the second round of spring fertilising and pruning. The knot
garden is taking off and the Wisteria screen is out of control, we
can’t believe how much it has grown in a short space of time! I think
your vision of a quiet piece of English tranquility was perfectly
realised.
The kids are getting to an age now where they are inquisitive of their
surroundings and, of course, they love spending time in their own
secret hedge maze. It will be fantastic for them growing up as the
garden grows too. It was an incredibly generous and kind act of you to
select our garden for a makeover. Every day it gives us something to
smile about.
